COVID-19 – UPDATE                                                                                 March 2020

UPDATE: 23rd MARCH 2020

We are now only teaching online.

Since the strong and direct instructions from the Government to STAY AT HOME, we will be only operating classes and 1-2-1 sessions online.  We will always follow Government instruction and look after our staff, pupils and the wider community.  It is the least we can do.

Keep safe and well everyone!

Hayley

UPDATE 20th MARCH 2020

Dear NDC

This is the post or email we never wanted nor expected to send.

From today, Friday 20th March 2020, NDC will be closing for all classes with immediate effect. This is due to new additional advice from the UK Government regarding the suppression of the current coronavirus pandemic, COVID-19.

Social Distancing is now imperative for all of us regardless of age and we feel that it is time for us all to follow this advice to the letter. Although we have tried our utmost to clean, sanitise and keep NDC a safe place, we cannot possibly know who is carrying the virus and therefore we now have to close in order to protect us all.

As a family business this is devastating. Three generations of our family rely solely on NDC and this has proudly been the case since 1931. Like many families up and down the UK, work and business disruption will cause major problems and that is true for us and our staff. Our Team are what makes NDC what it is and we thank every single person for their hard work, loyalty and dedication.

Moving forwards, we are planning online lessons which you will all be sent details of in due course. We aim to offer as much content as possible free of charge to help parents with home schooling and to continue a sense of normality for the children. However, we hope you can appreciate that we will have to charge for certain things. We need to try our best to keep generating an income stream to support the business for the future and hopefully allow us to reopen when appropriate to do so.

We hope that some one-to-one lessons will continue as we can contain and socially distance pupils and staff accordingly. If anyone would like a one-to-one lesson or small group class please let us know.

When this coronavirus pandemic is over, we hope our classes will be back and NDC can survive ..……. bigger and better than ever!!

We will certainly be ready to dance and everyone would be welcome!! We sincerely hope that we can rely on your custom if and when this day comes. What a party that would be!!

So, for now, the curtain falls and the lights go out. But hopefully not forever………………...

Our very best wishes to you and your families. Stay safe and good luck to us all.

Michael, Mavis and Hayley

Update 17th March 2020

Following new advice and guidance from the UK Government, as from today no parent/carer/staff or pupil will be able to visit or attend NDC if ANYONE IN THEIR HOUSEHOLD has a new cough, cold or temperature, even if the pupil is well.  They must isolate for 14 days and not return to NDC.  If this is the case, please let us know URGENTLY via email.

We are trusting that all parents will take this matter very seriously and not mask illness with medication etc.  NDC will continue as normal and will follow all advice from Public Health England.

If anyone has any concerns, please speak to our Principals or Sonia and Lucy.

----------

The wellbeing and health of our visitors, pupils and staff are of the utmost importance to us here at NDC.   We plan to keep you updated with any changes within NDC via email, website and social media, but in the meantime, we wanted to let you know what we are doing to keep us all as safe as possible and what you can do to help.

We must state that we are NOT AWARE OF ANY CASES OF COVID-19 AT NDC.

What we are doing at NDC

As well as constantly monitoring and taking advice from the UK Government and the NHS, we have implemented a broader cleaning and sterilising protocol to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19 to NDC.  All our team have been superb at implementing this new regime and we thank them for that.

As a precaution, we have postponed our forthcoming examination session.  This is to protect NDC and a possible larger than normal grouping of people.  Plus, the possibility of cancellation at the last minute.

Within class, we have limited some of the pupil to pupil and pupil to teacher ‘contact’, especially in the Ballroom, Classical and Latin American classes.

All our Ballet Barres are cleaned with anti-bacterial spray after every class/lesson, as well as door handles and other obvious areas where regular hand contact is made.

Our Reception area is cleaned regularly along with all till terminals and payment machines being wiped to prevent cross contamination.

We have provided anti-bacterial soap in all washrooms and hand gel in all studios and Reception area.

What you can do, or what to do if you think you might have coronavirus

Everyone has their part to play in this.  Whatever we do as a business, we can’t do it without you and your co-operation.

We are asking people to be sensible, mindful of others who will be at risk and continue to ask all visitors, pupils and staff to:

1.     Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds

2.    Always wash your hands when you arrive at NDC and get home

3.    Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

4.    Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

5.    Put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards

6.    Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

As of 12th March the new advice is:

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

  • a high temperature
  • a new continuous cough

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

If symptoms become serious contact 111.

Finally, we thank you all for your co-operation, and we hope we can all stay safe and well.  We look forward to less stressful times.

Very best wishes to you all!

Hayley, Michael and Mavis and the whole NDC Team
